Vidiyal Publications Below we have listed publications produced by Vidiyal. Many of them are intended as useful tools for educators or activists trying to teach about human rights or child rights. Child Rights Education through the game Snakes and Ladders: Vidiyal’s first publication was this game, which is now available in English, Tamil and Marathi. We look forward to any partnership that might help with translating the game into other languages. This game has proven to be an effective method for explaining the rights mentioned in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child for children. While playing, children learn about all of the rights pertaining to him or her. The colourful visual presentation makes it more attractive for children. Credit for this game goes to the children of the Vidiyal Child Rights Movement who designed this game. Vidiyalin Theepanthangal (Vidiyal’s Torches of Fire) Vidiyalin Theepanthangal is a collection of 14 street / stage plays written by Jim Jesudoss for the children’s theatre group at Vidiyal. These plays, which have been successfullyperformed in many places, address the theme of child rights, and speak out against casteism, discrimination, gender and social exclusion. Vidiyalin Kalakalappu (Vidiyal’s Joyous Play) Play is an important right for every child for his or her development. Play has been used as an important tool in the rehabilitation process of Vidiyal, which led to the publication of Vidiyalin Kalakalappu. We are proud to present a collection of 100 games created at Vidiyal as well as popular games that have been played at Vidiyal for the past 10 years. The illustrations were drawn by the Thurihai Children (Forum for Art Development) of Vidiyal. Vidiyalin Mulakkam (The Roaring Sound of Vidiyal) This is a collection of 216 songs used at Vidiyal, which includes both original compositions and popular songs. We use songs both as a tool to build awareness and for fun. Vidiyalin Athirvoli (The Vibrations of Vidiyal) This album, available in audio CD and audio cassette format, consists of 10 songs about various rights pertaining to children, in addition to the theme song of the Vidiyal Child Rights Movement. Vidiyal staff and children contributed in the production of this musical album. Vidiyalin Suvaduhal (Vidiyal’s Impressons) This documentary film tells us the story of Vidiyal and the impressions Vidiyal has created in the society. Visual presentation is supported by a narration in Tamil. Allegorical Stories We have collected six original allegorical stories on various themes to explain a concept. We offer a few questions at the end of each story to simulate discussion.
Books in Print: Vidiyal, The Story of Childhood Regained: Vidiyal’s history for a decade is documented with colourful photographs and illustrations. Child reminiscences give an interesting account of Vidiyal’s impressions on children in the perspective of children.
